A Call for Prayer for this Nation-Day Six

Today I am going to ask for prayers for the islands hit by Hurricane Omar, especially the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. From the photos I have seen, the coastline of St. Kitts, was especially hard hit. I have quite a number of relatives on both islands so of course I am concerned. I am hoping that they are all right, and I do believe that they are, although it appears that some telephone lines are down.

However, I am still on my mission to pray for the US, that God will be merciful to this nation. I continue to ask God to protect us from the politicians running amok, fueled by greed and ambition.

I struck up a conversation with a cashier at the market where I was earlier, and the talk got around to politics.  I warned the cashier not to "go there," because we could end up spending the rest of the evening on the subject. He began talking about how the political screw ups were screwing up our lives, putting their parties ahead of the country. I asked him to name me one politician who was suffering from high gas prices, high food prices, and all of the other financial aches and pains of "we the (rest) of the people." He tried. He could not name one. He was not surprised. Neither was I.

Psalm 55:22-23

22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

23 But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.

Proverbs 17:3-5

3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

Philippians 4:13

13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

As I look at the verses of Scripture that I chose for tonight, I realize that hope is juxtaposed  with retribution...wholly unintentional.

Please continue to pray.
