A Call for Prayer for this Nation-Day Eight

Whew! I am relieved that God did not have to appear in court to answer that lawsuit brought against him by a Nebraska state senator. The headline in the story that I read, screamed: "God avoids lawsuit because address is unlisted!" The Nebraska state senator is described as "tenacious." He accused God of causing "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

"Given that this court finds that there can never be service effectuated on the named defendant this action will be dismissed with prejudice," the judge stated in his ruling.

I guess in plain English the judge is saying: "Bud, you do not have a prayer in Hades to bring this action against the Almighty, so chill out and pray that all those things about His mercy and grace, are true." Jesus would have probably said: "Go and sin no more." If I did not know it before, I now know why God is God and I am mortal. My sinful mortal self had the thought that had I been God, I would have rained down "death and destruction" on one of earth's inhabitants, timing it just as the judge made his ruling, and it would not have been on the judge. But since I am trying to be more like Jesus, although the state senator is said to often criticize Christians, I will ask God, the defendant, to have mercy on this state senator, and indeed on all of us.

When I began this prayer project, I did not know that almost every day I would be able to cite an example of "politcians gone wild," and prove my point as to why we need to drop to our knees and pray for this nation. But the stories keep coming. At least this state senator did not claim to be the new messiah.

For today's Scripture, I will share a portion of two very appropriate Scripture verses from Matthew,  that my pastor instructed on  today.

Matthew 24:4-5

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.

5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Yes, we have to take heed and be on the "faux messiah alert." We have some out there who see themselves as being created in their own image. God is incidental to their creation, if He is at all acknowledged.

My pastor also referenced Psalm 2. I very frequently reference that same Psalm when I read about, or I am told stories about the excesses of those who are kings in their own deluded minds.

Psalm 2:1-4

1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

Ever since I discovered Handel's Messiah, with its reference to Psalm 2, I have loved this Psalm, with the visual of God having a chuckle at the foibles of the creatures that he allowed to attain positions of power, when He sees them puffed up with their own visions of grandeur.

I have a feeling that just about now, instead of sighing a sigh of relief at having escaped being hauled into court to answer charges of "terrorism," God is in Heaven directing His angels to go to houses all over the world and "feed his flock."

Please continue the prayers for this nation.
