A Call for Prayer for this Nation-Day Nine

Today is a good news and bad news kind of day. Gas prices fell below three dollars a gallon for the first time in about eight months. That is good news that could be even better if that price happened to be cut in half. Yes, I know. I may as well give up that fantasy.

The bad news, at least for Chinese raccoon dogs, is that 1500 of them lost their lives because of tainted feed. The old "melamine chemical as a source of nitrogen" sleight of hand struck again. Recently 4 infants died from the same melamine in their food. Forgive me animals lovers for saying this, but better that 1500 to 4 ratio, rather than the reverse.

I am carrying on this prayer project for the US, maybe I should be conducting a simultaneous project for the Chinese.  Plastic has become the new "natural" ingredient in their products. Whereas others talk about "becoming one with nature," it seems that the Chinese version is fast becoming "one with melamine." Will someone wake up there one day and find him or herself half human and half melamine?

Anyway, enough of the Chinese and their melamine market caper. This US of A is being threatened with becoming the "land of the un-free and home of the scared," by "naked emperors" who are clothesless (read ideas-less) and don't know it. That is the scary part of all of this. So once again, I call upon The Almighty that He wraps us in His grace and mercy.

Deuteronomy 28:11-13

11 And the LORD shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

12 The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

Moses wrote those words to the upcoming generations of Israelites and I am addressing them to this relatively young nation to call upon the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for guidance. I know that we have already fallen short in the "thou shalt not borrow" admonition. Indications are that we are in danger of borrowing ourselves into oblivion. However, there is still hope that we will not become "the tail," the reports about China surpassing us, notwithstanding. Let there be a few hundred more melamine-laced products unleashed on the world, and those reports of Chinese superiority could be killed, as if they had ingested melamine!

I leave you with with an entreaty to God to forgive our self-induced estrangement from Him, and return us to glory, in the things that matter. I invite you to join me in the ritual of falling on my knees to pray, and then arising to fight another day for this precious country!

Psalm 60:1-5, 11-12

1 O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

2 Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.

3 Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.

4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

5 That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.

11 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.

12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
