A Call for Prayer for this Nation-Day Sixteen
As I read my Bible this morning, the thought came to me to focus on the idea of "trust." I will go with that. We all, or most of us, through various vehicles/channels, are fervently praying to God for deliverance. We see evil growing like weeds in a favorite rose garden. We call on the exterminator. We double spray. We curse the weeds, but they are resilient, not pretty but very hardy. Our national rose garden, AKA this USA, is being overrun, and we feel helpless and petrified. Sprays of truth are no match for the insidious, pervasive growth of lies. God Himself has been the target of those human weeds who are deliberate in their assault, and revel in their misguided feelings of triumph.
But, I am going to trust in God to be a strong tower, a Heavenly Gardener, who in one single stroke can separate the weeds that seek to overwhelm His people.
Psalm 46:1-3, 7
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
7 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Matthew 6:31-32
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek
for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
Isaiah 26:3-4
3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:
Psalm 37:3-5
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 5Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
You have now read the verses of Scripture that invite you to trust in God, so, to borrow a favorite political phrase, "my fellow Americans," let not your hearts be troubled. That is easy to say when mine is threatening to stop beating as I survey the headlines which sometimes list, in excruciating detail: the decline in educational achievements: the shrinking wallets; the vicious crimes; the cruel political atmosphere; the deliberate villifying of those of us who love God; the killing of the unborn in the name of "choice," etc., etc.
But, I will continue to trust and to believe in the One True God, who is our only hope.

On behalf of the grateful of this nation, I thank you for all these prayers, Ercille! We sure can use them...especially this week.
