Evil in Mumbai

I intended to blog on "generosity," until the murderous spree in Mumbai, forced me to deal with it, by writing about it, since I cannot take the action that my human instincts would love to take. When "evil" strikes, my first instinct is to want to strike back, although I cannot shoot a gun, even if the gun had the ability to talk me through the process. I have been learning to remember that God clearly stated: "Vengeance is mine. I will repay."

I suppose that this rampage where about a dozen evil men killed almost two hundred and injured close to two hundred fifty, will raise  questions about "why did God let this happen?" I did not ask that question. I do not have the answer. All I believe is that God created us all, even the evil ones who perpetrated these acts. We come out of our mother's womb, if she made the right "choice," and we can either go down the road where most of us travel, the road where we learn right from wrong, and choose to pursue "right," as in what is decent and moral. Or, we could go down the road where we decide that killing fellow human beings is the "right" thing to do. The choice is ours.

Quite frankly, I do not want to hear the usual excuses about "difficult childhood," "lack of self-esteem," "in the name of religion," or "the devil made me do it." I always half-jokingly state that with the "interesting" childhood that I had, I could have become an axe murderer and play the "difficult childhood," card and probably get acquitted. But difficult as the childhood was, it was still a blessed childhood because the same God Who will probably be blamed for these murders, placed "angels in earthly apparel" along the way to save me from falling into a ditch or diving into a dumpster.

As for the other excuses for this heinous crime committed by these "monsters of Mumbai," here is a dumpster. You know what to do. These men, and I use "men" because I will not allow my mouth to verbalize the description that my earthly mind wants to convey. I have come a long way in this regard. The old me would have been using very harsh words in my anger. Instead I will ask God to protect the families of the evil men who committed these crimes.

I did not set out to see how many times I could include the word "evil" in this piece, but what other word can one use? It is evil to brutally murder the parents of a child who just made his second birthday, and make him an orphan. Six Americans were among those slaughtered in this "equal opportunity" massacre, including the parents of this two year old. He was thankfully rescued and is with his grandparents. I say to the evil perpetrators, their supporters and friends:

Proverbs 28:17

17 A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit;
      Let no one help him.

Just about now, these evil ones should be making the acquaintance of their leader, in that pit to which they willingly fled.

As I am writing, I am listening to Selah's rendition of "Wonderful Merciful Savior," and I am replaying it and replaying it. I keep telling myself to listen to something else, but my soul is crying out for the comforting words of the song, so I keep pushing the replay button. My heart is hungering for the heaviness brought on by the events in Mumbai, to be lifted by the beauty of the sounds that God allowed this group to create. It is working.

I beg of all of you who read this, to first of all pray for the families who have lost their loved ones. I also ask you, if only in a spirit of generosity, to pray for the families of the killers, that these families may realize that good will always outlast evil, and that it is not trite to believe that it is better to do good than to do evil. Pray for the agencies investigating this crime, that they come to the appropriate and accurate conclusions. Pray for the leaders that they be not cowed into a role of "accommodating evil." If they need an example, they need look no further than Jesus "taking out" the moneychangers in the temple. No, He did not kill them, although He easily could have. He laid down the law to them. Our leaders must lay down the law to the terrorists who prey on innocent people, and when the terrorists do not listen to the laying down of the law,  then kill them.
