Hello Politicians! Are You Listening Now?
November 2 , 2010 came and went, just like any other day on the calendar. However, a political version of real “global warming” hit the political scene in the US. Many Democratic politicians found that their particular brand of “oxide” was not selling. There were exceptions in two or three states, where apparently the voters still crammed onto that “hope and change” train, either are debating whether to ask for a refund, or have not gotten the message that the train has been derailed at the station!
What did the rest of the folks try to convey to their politicians? Was it, to borrow from VP Biden, a “three-letter word, J-O-B-S”? I am not particularly good at math, but his three letter word is actually a four-letter word. Did voters try to “strangle” the politicians, as the VP thought he should do to the Republicans? Again, courtesy of VP Biden: “To the press, that is a figure of speech.” I don’t care how many folks think otherwise. I love when VP Biden speaks. I am sure to learn something. He improved my mathematical skills by forcing me to count how many letters are in that word “jobs.” He also reinvigorated my use of figures of speech. I love the VP! To his wife – that is a figure of speech.
Hot off the press! According to this article, the president is "rested and ready for clash with republicans." Good. And I hope both he and the Republicans are ready for any clashes with “we the people," if they, the politicians, look to thwart our will, and feed their megalomania. We the ordinary folks, are both rested and vigilant – most of us anyway. The president is reported to have emerged from Mount Olympus, I mean “showed up in the press cabin of Air Force One,” and made his pronouncements, including:
"Campaigning is different than governing," Obama told reporters. "They are flush with victory after a campign of just saying no. But I'm sure the American people did not vote for more gridlock."
By the way, VP Biden is not responsible for the spelling of the word “campign!” I am glad to see that the president knows that there is a difference between campaigning and governing. Maybe he will now begin to govern. The American people voted “for more gridlock,” if it means preventing the passage of bills such as Obamacare, to which waivers are being given by the hundreds to certain big companies. Are the 111 and counting companies, big donors? “We the (ordinary) people” would like to know. Small business owners, you already know this, but I will repeat it – you are screwed.
The report continued:
Obama also hinted again at a mid-course correction, vowing he will adjust his approach to better connect with the American people.
"I spent the first years trying to get the policy right," Obama said. "In that obsessive focus on policy, I've neglected a few things that matter a lot to me."
Am I correct in interpreting this to mean that “we the people” are too stupid to understand when “policy” is being cooked up and we are the main item on the menu, so we will have to have grilled into us, the meaning of the word “barbecue”? We get it and we don’t want any part of it. Even many of the “hope-n-changers” are tired of the culinary offerings!
I am going to be bold and issue to the politicians, my “Policies and Practices Advisory.” “It is the spending, stupid,” to slightly paraphrase one of the icons of the president’s party. It is immoral to have so many in this current crop of politicians either acquiesce to, or not fight hard enough to have the government live within its means. Some politicians tried to fight the good fight, but they were outnumbered and vilified. “We the people” were not outnumbered, but we were certainly “out-funded,” “out-pressed” (as in media coverage), and also vilified. I don’t think that I have seen such a period, where the American people were called so many derogatory names – by their own president and his coterie. “Divisive,” “arrogant,” “clinging to God and guns” ring a bell? And we are footing the bill for this?
I think that I am going to have to go to the Ritz Carlton to finish this article, and while there attend the following meeting:
"The purpose of the November 22, 2010 meeting is to allow the RIAP to have an open dialogue, with input from the public, on issues relating to fraud, waste, and abuse of Recovery Act funds," says a notice in the Federal Register.
Friends sent me the link above and they were incensed that a meeting on “fraud, waste and abuse” would be held at the Ritz. I was not. I tried to show that that a ritzy place such as the Ritz is a perfect place. It is what the president likes to designate a “teachable moment.” The only difference is that this “moment” could go on for a few hours, at a cost of?
Speaking of teaching and learning, the president still has not learned that “change,” which is about the only thing left in some pockets, is not what the people want. We want dollar bills, and not one dollar bills. We are looking at his spendthrift ways. We want to “share the wealth,” be left with enough money to at least fly commercial to Mumbai. If we don’t go to Mumbai, we want to be able verify if the “rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain!” We want a return on our investment.
Along with our concerns about “waste, fraud, abuse,” and inordinate government spending, we are tired of the perpetual perp walk from elected officials. When I read this article about Congressman Charles Rangel, I was deeply concerned. Then the trial begins and he walks out because his legal team after collecting nearly $2 million, “withdrew as his representatives”? "Fifty years of public service is on the line”? How much have “we the people” paid him over fifty years for his “service”? As it turns out, he was found guilty.
The panel's chairwoman, California Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren said the committee rolled two charges together, meaning that Rangel was ultimately charged with 12, not 13 charges as originally stated. She added the committee was split on one of the remaining 12 counts-- a charge of harming the credibility of Congress.
The “harming the credibility of Congress” charge really cries out for many figures of speech, but I will hold myself in check. I feel sorry for Congressman Rangel. He is eighty years old, with “50 years of public service.” What is an 80-year old man still doing working in the US Congress, making laws for the rest of us to follow, laws from which he is exempt? Where was the wisdom that one should conceivably gain by age 80? When is he planning to leave? Quite frankly, I am not for term limits, but I can see the argument for curtailing half a century of service, especially when this longevity could cause the officeholder to lose touch with the reality of the deleterious consequences of his actions, on his constituents. Not even most monarchs reign for that long. Maybe I am the one who does not “get it.” He was recently reelected. One constituent mentioned about him bringing home the “bacon,” as the reason for his popularity. Now I understand.
The spending goes on…"Federal workers earning $150,000 or more" doubled under President Obama? And the riches of Congress increases. I really did not learn to think inside the federal government piggy bank. Had I, I would have gone into public service, either as a politician or a federal worker. I could have earned an island somewhere!
In putting together my advisory, I do have certain questions. Why is it with all of the technology that the US has, that some races in some states, counties, cities, appear to be part of a “never-ending story,” or the Democrat usually wins, or the rules of the voting booth do not apply to certain individuals and groups, or a family member is running, and a family member is controlling the voting process?
Someone once told me that there are no coincidences. I am going to have to beg to differ. In the US, “coincidence” is becoming part of the voting process, as mundane as the furniture in the voting booth. Here is a coincidence. I came across this article from the New Media Journal , outlining the elections in Nevada, involving the Senate Majority leader. The synergy in all of this almost leaves me “wordless,” but I will press on.
Politicians are going to have to begin to learn, even in Nevada, that passing on their power in government to their progeny, is not de rigueur. I am all for sons and daughters following their parents into careers, but too many of the current politicians think that their legacy to those sons and daughters should be a seat in government. This sounds very monarchial to me. If Poppa Politician wants to pass on the family “business,” buy a grocery store or a gas station. At least when doctors or lawyers follow their parents into those fields, they first have to earn the appropriate degrees, not just be handed a gavel or keys to the office. “Entitlement” as currently being practiced in this nation, is beginning to disgust me. Whatever happened to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” as the embodiment of “entitlement”?
In addition to the running over the cliff spending, and the too perfect confluence of the “coincidences and synergy” of the political process, what other teachable moments do I hope that the politicians learn from the elections? How about the country being overrun by illegal aliens, especially those with that new designation of "OTM"? According to the article, “hundreds of people” smuggled? If the indicted OTM smuggler was a real hustler, he could have aimed for thousands. According to this Fox News report, the National Guard has been called in. God bless them in their fruitless mission. How long has been this ongoing “debate” over which measures to take to protect the borders of the US? Somebody is not serious about taking effective action.
I think that a few Tulsa OK politicians should read the following e-mail from Susan B.
I want our Admiral Twin back, I want Bells Amusement Park back, I want our city back, this is just beyond words. I want patriot Dave and all those great Tulsans to come back too, but in some ways, perhaps they were smart for getting out when they did. Former Tulsans have relocated to surrounding areas because they are sick of the politics in Tulsa. This is insanity.
Hell! No wonder I dream about SH*T! I recently had a dream that I was in an avalanche of SH*T and this probably explains why too!
We hear you Susan. I have not had a dream with your specific type of “sod,” but I feel surrounded by it! We who love this country find it almost unbelievable that a country founded on such ideals, could degenerate into what it is today. I find it very odd how certain “coincidences” designed to destroy this country happened very synergistically. The market does its Titanic imitation just before the 2008 elections, quite coincidental to the near destruction of the British Pound Sterling on September 16, 1992? In certain parts of the nation, getting your vote to count, or getting to vote, especially if you are in the US Military, fighting to preserve our right to vote, becomes worse than Don Quixote tilting at windmills.
This Washington Examiner article has an interesting take on the big loser in these 2010 elections. By Golly, what a coincidence! Isn’t this big loser the same one who was supposedly behind le affaire Pound Sterling I just referenced? Britain and America – separated by oceans – but united in currency coincidences, by a Hungarian? I love synergy – except when the country I love is turned into a “synergy sandwich.”
Maybe the Mark Steyn "Doctrine" is the perfect summation of where we are and need to be:
If American government is to be restored to sanity, rediscovering genuine federalism and local innovation is critical. But on the other hand, after the ascent of Cuomo and Brown, I stand by my earlier observation about the corpulent, gin-sodden trollops of New York and California.
I live in California, but I promise that I am not one of those “corpulent, gin-sodden trollops!” If the US and California do not turn things around, I may entertain the “gin-sodden” option, but I refuse to be “corpulent” especially if I have to have an encounter with those all-seeing, all revealing airport scanners, or have to be groped, er examined by one those agents, just doing his or her job to keep us safe. Am I within my rights to demand not to be groped, since I am not a trollop? Just asking…
Politicians, to sum up the message of 11/02/2010: The three Ps – less pork, less perks, less privileges – should be on the menu for you. You are not potentates. We no longer do the potentate thing since the 18th century, when we separated from King George III. We also want less spending, and protected US sovereign borders. We do not ask for much. Pretend that “we the people” are lobbyists and big time donors. Deliver.
