The US Military: Extremely Effective While It Lasts

Now that the eggnog, of which I had a considerable portion, thanks to my pastor’s wife (another story for another day), has been indulged in, and “peace on earth,” is not yet around the corner, it is time to get down to brass tacks. The sentence “How the Stealth War on the US Military is now out in the open” was too long to be the title of this article, but it could have been an effective title. The “war on America,” is being fought from within, and our troops are the first line – not of defense – but to be attacked – from within.

The “stealth war” began with the president who used the Oval Office to be “serviced” by an intern. That word “service” is so confusing! Although he openly proclaimed his “loathing” for the US Military, the war against the “loathed ones” remained under wraps, for the most part. Mogadishu, where a two-bit dictator wannabe and his adherents got the best of some of the members of the US Military will forever live in infamy, and occurred during the reign of this president. Yours truly, a semi-packrat, and proud of it, found article upon article, and cartoons, of his activities and proclivities, that I saved, as the nation was “digesting,” (pardon the pun), the descent of the presidency, to the depths of the desk of the Oval Office. With such a busy schedule, how could this president have found time to command the “loathed Military”?

Among the memorabilia found was an article about the uproar caused when George Stephanopoulos published “All Too Human.” The late Tony Snow had an article entitled “Nation Suffers from Clinton Fatigue.” In Time Magazine of February 22, 1999, Lance Morrow wrote, “Why I’m Still Angry,” complete with a graphic of a hand holding Clinton in its fingers and squeezing. Richard Cohen’s take was “Time Hillary, Bill stopped scaring horses,” which lamented an interview that Hillary Clinton gave to Talk Magazine, inevitably bringing up the “services of the intern.” Was Mrs. Clinton even back then anticipating the WikiLeaks leaks of diplomatic cables? The late Michael Kelly’s perspective was “Clinton’s House of Cards Exposed,” regarding the alleged China stealing of US secrets. This article too had its graphic – one of a stern looking Bill Clinton stating categorically “I did not sell nuclear secrets to that country…China.”

I almost forgot. The National Enquirer, in its inimitable style, had a photo of two Hollywood personalities – have not heard much of said personalities recently – jumping on the “antique bed in the historic Lincoln Bedroom” – with the heading “Boogie Nights At The White House.” “Failed Leaders, False Wars” was Michael Ledeen’s view in a Los Angeles Times article of April 29, 1999. Mr. Ledeen was discussing the sending of the “loathed” Military into Kosovo. The “loathed ones” did come in handy. I mentioned finding cartoon clippings. Perhaps those should be left for another forum, as this article is geared toward a family-oriented readership. Were I based in Hollywood, I would have had interested readers have their people call my people to arrange a viewing!

Flash forward to 2009 and the war on the US Military moved to one of its own bases, Fort Hood. “One of its own,” allegedly shouting the cry that Muslim terrorists yell as they go in for the kill, allegedly killed 14, including an unborn baby. Unfortunately for the alleged killer, he was paralyzed, thereby postponing his trip to the afterlife for his appointment with unlimited sex with those 72 mythical virgins. After the massacre, the first words out of the establishment were about the blow to “diversity.” The fear was not that more troops and civilians could be killed, and proper mourning for those who were slaughtered. I found that rather odd. The one year anniversary of the killings came around this past November. There was not a peep out of the commander-in-chief. Those killed were both gone and forgotten. R.I.P.

However, all of a sudden, there was this rush to pass, as it is labeled DADT. Is that the same as DDT? I am still trying to understand why the bedroom activities of a potential soldier or other recruit, have to be factored into Military service. Here is a novel idea. Recruit and sign up based on ability to pass the usual examinations, excluding bedroom proclivities or prowess. What next? The Catholic Church is going to encourage “openly pedophilic” men to enroll in the church, mentoring altar boys, as a civil right? I have been a big supporter of the troops who go out to serve their country. My admiration for their bravery and courage has never been predicated on their bedroom activities. I care about their ability to “take no prisoners,” keep the US and themselves safe! If the bedroom is going to be the new standard, then I too have a decision to make. Writer Mr. Alan Caruba has a warning.

In between being mowed down on their bases, our troops are being mowed down in record numbers in Afghanistan, because of what I call the “idiotic” rules of engagement, which translate to:

“You trooper, should wait until you are hit, to retaliate. Oops, you died, before you could defend yourself? OK, we will give you a nice funeral, with all of the bells and whistles, and your family will get a nice US Flag to replace you. Enjoy the afterlife, even though you won’t have 72 virgins to console you.”

It is debatable whether it is better to be killed while following those catch 22 rules of engagement, or daring to defend yourself and winding up at Fort Leavenworth, where you are given a number and a cell. Feel free to ask Michael Behenna. Ranger Behenna was one of those troops who dared to defend himself. He screwed up a politically correct approach to “waging war.” He and the rest of the “Leavenworth Ten,” are guests of her majesty’s prison. I misspoke. This is America. There is no royalty here – I think. I could be wrong. I agree with Diane West:

“No reason to undermine the guilty verdict, the prosecution insisted. Indeed -- and here, an observer of both proceedings told me, came the shift in prosecutorial strategy -- whether standing or sitting, the enemy fighter was fully justified in attacking the fully armed American lieutenant, threatening his life. Further, the military prosecutor claimed the situation was such that the American lieutenant had ...no ...right ...to ...self-defense.

“This is twisted beyond twisted. So, too, is the apparent fact that had the terrorist seized the lieutenant's weapon in a scuffle, Lt. Michael Behenna would be innocent in the military's eyes. He would also be dead.

“It's time for our appalling military justice system to go on trial.”

Maybe it is also time for our “appalling” education system to go on trial. This report on the results of the Military entrance exam results could turn out to be another blow to the US Military. Of every four candidates who take the Army exams, one fails because answers in “basic math, science and reading questions” are beyond their capabilities? Maybe if the US was not busy educating the children of the estimated ten to twenty million “guests,” who invited themselves into the country, then American children could be given a decent education. Maybe if actually educating children came first, on the political agenda of the adults entrusted with their education, then the children of America could at least crack the top ten in global results.

By the way, I am convinced that it is immoral for a government to be sending its young out to fight to protect millions who have invaded the country, use its benefits, and send back most of the money earned illegally to the “home” country. Could this be not just stupidity, but part of a pattern to destroy the one line of defense standing between the US citizen/taxpayer and crackpot dictators who would love to see this country destroyed? Is there a “follow the money” situation here? Maybe it is plain idiocy and those “Ivy League” educations are not all they are cracked up to be?

What have we here? The mistreatment of Veterans is just not federal? Once again California seems to be leading the way – in the wrong direction. According to this article on Veterans Today , a California legislator is fooling around with the bequest of the dead. Sir Legislator should realize that, ‘tis never good to metaphorically rob graves. The dead have no power, but they have a Prosecutor who does. He does not promise 72 virgins.

I have a great idea, probably never thought of by Sir Legislator. Why doesn’t someone use one of those earmark things and build housing for the Veterans lining the streets of California, because they are homeless? Help them to find jobs, even if this report on unemployment does not look too good for Vets. Here is another saying. God does not like ugly. The treatment of our defenders is ugly.

Did I just mention the word “ugly”? Yes, I did. The tale gets uglier, and the name of this pig in a poke is called START. I am going to strive to get a government job in the “Department of Acronym Creation.” There isn’t such a department? There should be. We don’t seem to care if these policies w-o-r-k, as long as we get great acronyms out of the deal! The Navy vice admiral who is quoted here should definitely know of what he speaks when he stated that the Russians are “taunting the Obama administration.” Is the policy of said administration, “speak softly (unless against American citizens and traditional US allies), and carry no stick”? I guess the days of “speak softly and carry a big stick,” are over. Ah, for the days when coglioni existed in American leaders….

Mr. Medvedev said, “I told him: Barack, you have a rest now.” I hope that “rest” is not as in eternal rest. Medvedev could be quite sincere in his “have a rest now” sentiments. However, in the future, some other Russian leader could decide that his interpretation is that many Americans should be sent to their eternal rest. When will Americans ever learn? Didn’t I read somewhere that the first brain transplant was done, or about to be done? Maybe the first simultaneous brain and coglioni surgery can be scheduled where such surgery is needed. Why did a certain “prime area in DC” immediately spring to mind, to perform such surgery?

Again, when will Americans (at least their leaders) ever learn? Apparently not when it comes to doing business with Iran. I have confidence in Israel, if the current leadership does not buckle, something like the current crop of US Republican leaders just did, to protect itself. Israel will have to depend on itself and not this current US president, who apparently likes the American people as much as he does Israelis. But of course, nothing about which to worry. If Iran gets (further) out of line, those “loathed” US troops can be sent in, so that future leaders of Iran can repeat history and mistreat them in the US embassy, right?

I may need a heart transplant for a broken heart after reading this downgrading defense capability report. Say what?

“The U.S. is no longer unrivalled in terms of conventional weapons. Conventional threats are real and growing -- not "conjured up" and shrinking, as Gates claims. It is necessary to invest in the equipment needed to defeat these threats.”

Mama Mia and Daddy Dios! Only Daddy Dios can help us now.

The president was on television crowing about the “season of progress,” because he hoodwinked some Republican “leaders” into jumping on the START and DADT bandwagon, nicely adorned in their pink and yellow suits. What if the favorite colors of the leaders of Revolutionary Times, were yellow and pink? The president and his collaborators see this START Treaty as a “partnership” between the US and Russia in curbing nuclear weapons. Is this the same partnership between Lucy and Charlie Brown? If it is, then for all our sakes, the US had better be Lucy. I doubt it though.

Putin and his collaborators must be doing a jig as they sing “send in the clowns,” while toasting from their glasses with the inscription “there is a sucker born every minute,” especially if born in the US, and in a leadership position! One Senator, wanting to sound tough, declared that the START Treaty leaves the US with enough nuclear weapons to blow any aggressors to “kingdom come.” Yeah right. Tell that to the Russians after they and their allies have blown the US to “kingdom past.” The USSR was formally dissolved on December 26, 1991. Will December 2010 be considered the beginning of its reconstitution?

Before I moved to this country, I used to wonder why it was that Americans usually have to move in to fix a problem, resulting in unnecessary loss of lives, when the problem could have been initially fixed without the loss of those lives. Having lived through a few US administrations/Congress, I see the problem. It is the leadership, stupid. This START Treaty is going to first impact the US Military and then move down to the rest of the population. Remember the saying “first they came for the Jews”? Turn that around to “first they came for our troops,” then door to door for the rest of us. When Aristotle declared that “brave men are all vertebrates; they have their softness on the surface and their toughness in the middle,” he really was not referring to this current crop of leaders. They can never be brought up on charges of “toughness.”

I thought that I was feeling disillusioned before? This Andrew C McCarthy article does not reassure:

In truth, New START is worse than a bad deal. It does nothing to reduce Russia’s huge advantage in tactical nuclear weapons. Instead, President Obama proposes to tie only America’s hands. The reductions and caps apply to strategic nukes, the category in which the United States holds an advantage that Russia, a declining power, cannot hope to dent absent our self-defeating complicity.

Mr. McCarthy uses the word “transies.” Is it because it rhymes with pansies? My summation of this treaty is that the vulture will be circling the lamb. The US will have a nice mint sauce drizzled on it.

And those responsible? They are doing all right. The president went off to his $3,500 star accommodations vacation in sunny Hawaii, island of his birth, after signing the preemptive surrender to Russia. He was even escorted in a 20-car motorcade to see a childhood friend. As wise Sheila S. opined:

“Barack's friend Bobby couldn't have been quietly picked up and taken over to Barack's place for their play date?”

I have to admit that I was inspired by the grandeur of the entire episode. I tried to get friends to do the same for me. So far, only my friend Cindy S. of PA, agreed to attempt something. She offered me a “one-woman motorcade.” She would drive and I could sit in the back of her car. Taken!

In all of this golfing, snorkeling, and “motor-cading” – what about the troops? As far as I can tell, the members of the “cannon fodder,” brigades are in their foxholes protecting their chief’s right to golf, sun and snack on snow cones – if they have not been incarcerated, homeless or jobless. “Let them eat cake”? They may end up eating missiles as could the rest of us.

Wise William Shakespeare stated “no legacy is so rich as honesty.” It is time that those in charge of the “cannon fodder,” come clean and state their honest intentions, before more young men and women are sacrificed on the pillar of the baseless, tasteless and deadly ambitions of the “Lords.”
