August 11, 2011 – September 11, 2001: A Tribute to those murdered on 9/11 – Day Thirty
Today, September 9, 2011, I am asking the question that Rodney King asked some years ago – “Can’t we all get along”? Maybe Mr. King is not a good example. He still cannot get along with certain state laws. Without going much further, and maybe taking an unusual route, I am going to give my conclusion, before I even present the “thesis.” We cannot all get along, when on one side there are those who feel that to “get along,” means that my life, and the lives of my fellow citizens have become dispensable, that the preferred method of “discourse,” is separation of my body and spirit.
Now, I will proceed to show why sitting around a global campfire, strumming guitars, and singing Kumbaya will not happen. While many of us are wistfully wishing for “peace and harmony,” the killers continue to bomb and kill.
Just check with Pakistan. 48 worshippers killed at a mosque, a house of worship, in a “majority-Muslim nation, despite the observance of Ramadan”? It does not make sense. Maybe it does make sense. Maybe it is proof that those who love to kill do not care if they kill their own people, or maybe especially their own people.
Ask Russia about getting along. Terrorists rang in the New Year of 2011, by bombing Moscow airport. Tellingly, the report states:
The station said the handmade bomb was stuffed with metal objects to increase shrapnel from the explosion.
It is just not about instantaneous death. It is also about inflicting as much pain as possible. Israel can certainly share with the rest of the world all of the various methods by which its citizens have been killed by Islamic terrorists.
Some nations celebrate independence with champagne and the only popping sounds are the sounds of the corks popping. Not so recently in Afghanistan, where the Taliban added a kick to the celebrations, with a three-pronged attack on a British cultural center. Is this the same Taliban with whom the US government is holding talks? I believe that the Taliban actually broke off those talks, something about” no honor among thieves” (figuratively speaking, of course), kind of situation?
While Islamic terrorists almost have a monopoly on terror killings, sometimes others join in the “fun.” Recently in Mexico, one of its drug cartels killed 53 human beings – because it could. Imagine if those drug cartels and Islamic terrorists decided that “we can all get along”? Actually, I remember reading that they do have a sort of symbiotic relationship, where drug money is used to fund terror. If this budding friendship develops into a full blown “affair,” we are in deep trouble, because in some quarters, we are actually making it easier for terrorists and their supporters/sycophants to infiltrate our society.
I came across this report about an Islamic bank settlement involving the US Department of Justice. I still do not understand all the inner workings of all of the secrecy, the fines, and the players. I did see the name Muslim Brotherhood, and I did understand that for $30 mil, the DOJ agreed to end its investigation of the company. Am I being too pristine here, in querying why this investigation was dropped, after money changed hands? Is there, was there, any wrong doing on the part of this company?
Is this like a traffic accident where a driver causes damages, but if a hefty fine is paid to the traffic officer, the charges become non-existent? I admit my ignorance of high finance, upper level legal processes, and whatever means that the dealings are way above the level of this serf. I do hope that all of the “whereas,” and “wherefores,” were adequately covered. I did not attempt to make “whereas” into a plural form, as this, although perhaps grammatically and anatomically correct, would have had other implications.
I think that this other story could be one of “whereas” and “wherefores.” This seems to be a case of the Ground Zero mosque vs St. Nicholas Church, with the church on the losing end of things.
This just in! Federal funds were denied to the builders of the Ground Zero Mosque. However, this potential “wherefore” can be turned into a “whereas.” The mosque builders could be re-applying. Therefore, could the mosque be ready in time to open for the 15th anniversary of 9/11? Can a Christian church and a mosque get along when the church is potentially not going to be rebuilt, and the mosque can potentially receive taxpayer funds to be built? This getting along thing is becoming more complicated, body by body.
Speaking of bodies, we have almost three thousand bodies whose owners only “crime” was being in the right place at the wrong time. Do we spit on their graves by allowing terrorism to win? We have a Hamlet moment here, folks – to be or not to be?
Do we figuratively tell Deora Bodley, who “really touched many lives,” especially those of kids, that her life was worth zero?
Will the “knack for fitting in” of Anil T. Bharvaney have been for naught? “He was at home with any culture,” until his good nature ran into the culture of death, and it was no contest.
“Problem solver” Alan Bondarenko finally ran into a problem that he could not solve. How does anyone solve the evil in men’s heart, and lust in their loins that cause them to deliberately ram planes into buildings, with the intent to destroy lives, structures, and even the spirit of an entire country? Here was another gentleman willing to work with and accepting of other cultures until, like Mr. Bharvaney, he ran into the culture of death, or more specifically, the culture of death rammed into him.
Yvonne Bonomo, “global traveler” was a cell phone call away from her mom. Her call never went through, as the plane slammed into the WTC building where she was working.
Not even Sean Booker who was a “minister to his flock” in his spare time, could have made a difference in the lives of his killers who were indoctrinated with a powerful elixir of sex and spirituality. I think that I am misjudging the killers. There was no spirituality involved in their motivation.
For those of us who are deluding ourselves that we can all get along, Yahoo.com has a slide show with the devastating, destructive effects of the terrorists who enjoy maiming and killing.
I came to my conclusion that we cannot all get along, before I presented the evidence. I have not changed my stance, especially after presenting my evidence. Maybe, since Kumbaya is out as the unifying song, we can try Shall We Gather at the River.
Gathering at the river, is too late for those terrorists who gathered at airports to ram planes into buildings, but the rest of us, still have an opportunity. Although I feel that we cannot all get along, I hope that potential murderers could have a change of heart, and no longer be able to look kids in the face and kill them, will turn their bombs, knives, box cutters, IEDs, and other weapons of human destruction, into ploughshares. I can get along. All I ask is some compassion and concern on your part. Getting along is a two-way street.
I will continue to hope. I will also continue to trust in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, at Whose river, we can all gather, if we choose to, by obeying His will.
God bless America.
